Fitness is Health

Fitness is Important

What is physical fitness? Being physically fit helps you look, feel and do your best. You can perform tasks full of energy, whether it is exercising, or daily activities such as shopping, house cleaning or fun activities with your family and friends. It also affects you mentally, it can change how you feel about yourself and your wellbeing.

Physical activity is a very important part of a person’s lifestyle, providing both mental and physical benefits such as an increase in your heart and lungs working capacity.

Mental health benefits of exercise

As you can see there are numerous mental health benefits to being active, exercise can help you feel less stressed, can improve your self-esteem and helps you feel energized for the day ahead.

It also helps lift your mood as during exercise the brain produces chemicals that will make you feel happier and nice and relaxed by the end of your workout.

Regular exercise can also help you fall asleep faster and help you sleep deeper. A good night’s sleep can improve your concentration and productivity for your tasks the following day.

Physical health benefits of exercise

As well as your mind, regular exercise also keeps your body healthy. Exercise makes your bones solid, improves your heart and lungs, and makes your muscles strong.

Exercise can also affect specific diseases, for example, numerous studies have shown that adults who exercise regularly (about 60 minutes of brisk exercise each day) burn more calories and use blood sugar more efficiently than adults who don’t exercise. This could protect you from developing type 2 diabetes.

Exercise is also great for improving bone density, the more you exercise in your early years, the greater your bone density will become, helping to prevent diseases such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis.

Having improved heart and lung function is also a great positive from being active, the more you work out the fitter you become and that can only be a good thing!

Exercise doesn’t only have to be hour long gym sessions, it can be playing your favorite sport, meeting friends for a brisk walk in the park or joining an outdoor exercise club, some people like to set goals to train towards, such as a half marathon, obstacle course event or simply improving their health and fitness in the long term!
